Trump waives the Russia energy sanctions two days before they took effect
- Trump signed an order on Friday waiving US sanctions on Russian energy, two days before they were due to take effect.
- • The law allowed duties of up to 100 per cent on goods from the biggest buyers of Russian crude and gas, India among them.
- Kirill Dmitriev, Putin’s investment envoy, called it a historic moment. The Kremlin itself has not reacted.
- Trump certified to Congress that the waiver serves US national interests. The order does not say how.
