Uber shuts operations in Nigeria and Uganda amid global workforce cuts
- Uber shut down its services in Nigeria and Uganda on Wednesday, ending 12 years of business in Nigeria.
- It now runs in just four African countries, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa, after earlier exits.
- The pullout comes as Uber cuts about 10% of its staff worldwide, roughly 3,300 jobs, including in India.
- Analysts say the cuts could save $825 million a year, money Uber may put into driverless taxis.
