UNICEF names India captain Smriti Mandhana advocate for girls’ empowerment

The United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF named cricket captain Smriti Mandhana its celebrity advocate on Sunday.
She will work to empower adolescent girls and push for equal opportunities for them to play and thrive.
Mandhana said cricket taught her that every dream begins with an opportunity to prove oneself.
She took over as India captain this week after Harmanpreet Kaur stepped down from the role.
