Unpaid housework gets a place in India’s labour data from January 2027
- India’s main labour survey will change from January 2027 to better count platform workers and unpaid household work.
- • The NSO says the 2026 survey did not pick up enough digital platform workers under the current design.
- A separate sampling group will be created for them, with new questions on caregiving and volunteer work.
- The survey decides India’s official employment and unemployment numbers.
