US President Trump says Houthis asked Washington not to intervene in Yemen
- US President Donald Trump said Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis asked Washington not to intervene in their conflict with Saudi Arabia.
- Trump said the Houthis told the US they do not want to fight American forces or be targeted by Washington.
- The comments came as the Houthis expanded control along Yemen’s Red Sea coast and seized strategic territory near Bab el-Mandeb.
- Trump also said he expects the regional situation to “work out,” while the US has so far avoided direct military action against Houthis.
