US to bar Palestinian leader Abbas from UN General Assembly for second year running
- The US plans to bar Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas from addressing the UN General Assembly in New York in September.
- It would be the second consecutive year, after the US denied Abbas entry last year, citing actions by the Palestinian Authority PA that it said undermined prospects for peace.
- Abbas has asked Turkey's President Erdogan to appeal to Trump personally — a PA official said Erdogan responded positively to the request.
- The UN Headquarters Agreement requires the US to let foreign leaders in — the UN has urged Washington to honour the obligation.
