YouTube changes how views are counted from August 24
- From August 24, YouTube will count a public view as soon as a video, Short or live stream starts playing for viewers.
- The change removes minimum watch-time for public views, bringing YouTube’s counting closer to TikTok and Instagram.
- Creators may see public view totals rise faster, but earnings and YouTube Partner Programme eligibility will not change.
- YouTube will retain its older method as ‘Engaged views’ in Analytics to show how many viewers actually kept watching.
