Belgian PM says he planned a chocolate India Gate gift for Modi, explains why he couldn't bring it
- Belgian PM Bart De Wever planned to gift PM Modi a replica of India Gate made entirely from Belgian chocolate.
- Speaking at a joint press conference in New Delhi, De Wever said the chocolate replica did not survive the journey to India.
- He said India Gate was chosen to honour Indian soldiers who fought and died in Belgium during World War I.
- He joked that while chocolate is excellent for diplomacy, it is not ideal for diplomatic travel, but said a backup replica is ready in Belgium.
- De Wever was in India on a three-day official visit from September 2–4 for talks with PM Modi on bilateral ties.
