CMFRI develops app that measures fish without touching them
- Scientists at ICAR-CMFRI in Kochi have developed the MatsyaMetri app to measure a fish’s length and width using a smartphone camera.
- The app automatically records measurements and can measure several fish of the same species in one sampling session.
- It can generate length-frequency data used for fish stock assessment, population studies and monitoring marine resources.
- MatsyaMetri works on Android phones supporting ARCore and lets researchers export stored measurements as CSV files for analysis.
