- National Human Rights Commission of India reportedly sought a detailed report from Punjab on August 19 over claims that some government schools skipped Independence Day celebrations.
- The complaint focuses on rural, remote and border-area schools where celebrations were allegedly not held on 15 August.
- Punjab must provide school-wise data on flag hoisting, the National Anthem, student participation and any non-compliance.
- The Chief Secretary has four weeks to submit a compliance report, while the Education Ministry must also provide information.
