Drought declared in 5 states as India ends monsoon with 12.3% rainfall deficit
- The Centre said five states were drought-hit after India recorded a 12.3% monsoon deficit, on September 29.
- Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Rajasthan and parts of Andhra Pradesh were declared drought-affected.
- Separately, extreme rain and floods damaged 6.11 lakh hectares of farmland across the country.
- Kharif sowing fell 1%, with paddy acreage dropping 16.32 lakh hectares amid weak monsoon rainfall.
