EV charging stations soar, utilisation remains stuck at 1%-5%
- India had 29,151 EV charging stations by December 2025, nearly six times the roughly 5,000 stations in 2022.
- Of these, 8,805 were fast chargers and 20,346 were slow chargers, with over 200 charge point operators active in the country.
- Despite the rapid expansion, charging station utilisation remains low at 1%-5%, according to estimates from SBI and S&P Global.
- High power tariffs, site costs and low utilisation are hurting the business case, while 73% of chargers have capacity below 30 kW.
