Gujarat extends gutkha, tobacco pan masala ban till September 2027
- Gujarat has extended its ban on the manufacture, storage, distribution and sale of gutkha and pan masala containing tobacco or nicotine for another year from September 13.
- The restriction, which has been in force since 2012, will continue until September 12, 2027, under a notification issued by the state Food Safety Commissioner.
- The government cited health concerns, including research linking tobacco-based gutkha and pan masala consumption with a higher risk of oral cancer.
- The ban also covers separately sold ingredients that can be mixed to prepare gutkha or tobacco-based pan masala, with legal action against violators.
