India to introduce stricter BS VII pollution rules for vehicles from 2029
- India plans to introduce Bharat Stage VII BS VII emission rules from April 2029 to reduce harmful pollution from vehicles.
- The rules will cover new cars and SUVs in 2029, small commercial vehicles in 2030, and buses and trucks from 2031.
- • BS VII will target smaller harmful particles, exhaust gases, brake dust and tyre wear, requiring upgraded vehicle technology.
- New vehicles may become costlier, but existing BS VI vehicles will remain valid. Separate rules for two-wheelers will come later.
