India’s Jan Dhan accounts cross the 59-crore mark
- Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana helps unbanked people open basic savings accounts and access credit, insurance, pensions and money transfers.
- The Union government said 59.09 crore Jan Dhan accounts have been opened, with their combined deposits crossing Rs 3.17 lakh crore.
- Women own 56% of all accounts, while 78% are in rural and semi-urban areas, showing the scheme’s reach beyond major Indian cities.
