India's NRI investment rules are changing — here is what investors abroad need to know
- SEBI has proposed letting NRIs open Indian investment accounts online from wherever they live — no travel to India needed.
- Right now an NRI in Dubai or London can spend weeks sending physical documents just to buy one Indian stock — that may soon change.
- Zerodha's Nithin Kamath said simpler account-opening could bring a lot more NRI money into Indian markets if the proposal goes through.
- The proposal is still being finalised — if approved, opening an account could take one or two days instead of several weeks.
