Lunar Eclipse 2026: Moon to turn deep red during near-total eclipse this week
- Earth's shadow will cover 96.2 per cent of the Moon on Thursday night, leaving only a bright sliver uncovered.
- It will be visible across North and South America, and in parts of Europe and Africa where it begins early Friday.
- India will miss this one entirely, but the next lunar eclipse on 20 and 21 February will be visible here.
- The shadowed part turns reddish orange, because Earth's atmosphere scatters sunlight around the planet's edge.
