NASA astronaut captures purple lightning from ISS
- On August 21, NASA astronaut Don Pettit shared footage of purple lightning seen from the International Space Station.
- Pettit said the thunderheads can rise to around 50,000 feet, higher than most aircraft, making them clearly visible from orbit.
- He used a Nikon Z9 camera at 120 fps and 1/1200th shutter speed to capture the lightning in sharper detail.
