North Korea expands naval power with nuclear-capable Kang Kon destroyer
- North Korea has commissioned the 5,000-ton Kang Kon destroyer, its second warship of this class.
- Kim Jong-un said the vessel will form part of North Korea’s state nuclear counteraction system.
- The destroyer will join the East Sea Fleet, expanding Pyongyang’s nuclear-capable naval presence on its eastern coast.
- Its commissioning comes as the US, South Korea and Japan begin the five-day Freedom Edge military exercise.
