Yokohama wants to sell tyres to carmakers, not just car owners
- Right now Yokohama India mostly sells tyres to people replacing old ones. It wants to start selling directly to car companies instead.
- MD & CEO Harinder Singh said buyers have changed. A few years ago people asked for the cheapest tyre. Now they ask about safety and how long it lasts.
- Most of its sales now come from bigger tyres, because more people are buying SUVs.
- The company is increasing production from 25 lakh tyres a year to 45 lakh. It competes with MRF, Apollo and CEAT.
