World’s largest iceberg A23a almost melts away after 40 years near Antarctica
- A23a, once the world's largest iceberg, has almost fully melted after drifting near Antarctica for 40 years.
- It broke off Antarctica in 1986 and was once about 2,000 square miles in size, roughly as big as Bali.
- Whales, penguins and seals lived around it, and it even carried parts of an old Soviet research station.
- It kept shrinking in warm waters, and by May 2026 only tiny pieces of it could be seen from space.
