A brand new boat club won Kerala's biggest race on its first try
- The Nehru Trophy Boat Race is held every year on Punnamada Lake in Alappuzha, Kerala. Snake boats called chundan vallam, up to 100 feet long, race with over 64 rowers each.
- On August 22, Aroma Chundan won the 72nd edition, beating Nadubhagam Chundan. It was the club's first ever appearance.
- The race began in 1952, when Jawaharlal Nehru visited Alappuzha & watched a snake boat race.
- The boat that won that first race in 1952 was
