No more MH-12 for new vehicles — Pune gets a new code, MH-61
- Pune has run out of number plate combinations under MH-12. Every vehicle in the city carries "MH-12," followed by two letters — and those letters have now gone all the way from AA to ZZ, leaving nothing left to assign.
- To solve this, Pune wanted to try something no Indian city has done before: reusing MH-12 by adding a number before the letter, like MH-12 1A. But this needs changes to the vehicle registration software that aren't ready yet.
- So for now, Pune is getting a brand new code — MH-61 — for all new vehicles registered going forward. If you already have an MH-12 number, don't worry — it stays exactly as it is.
