After nearly 80 years since Independence, Dibrugarh resumes cargo trade with Bangladesh via Brahmaputra
- Before Independence, Dibrugarh was a major river-trade hub, but international cargo declined after 1947 as trade and transport networks changed.
- Dibrugarh will now send 1,080 tonnes of methanol to Bangladesh, its first such international cargo shipment in nearly 80 years.
- Trade is resuming through the Bogibeel Inland Waterways Terminal in Dibrugarh, equipped with a jetty, warehouse and customs facilities.
- The methanol will travel via the Brahmaputra River, potentially opening the route for future exports of tea, coal, petroleum and farm goods.
