Google is buying Spirit Airlines’ data to train its AI
- Google won a $10 million bankruptcy auction for Spirit Airlines’ internal data, which it plans to use to train its AI models, after the airline halted operations in May.
- The dataset includes emails, bookings, frequent flyer and HR data, stripped of personally identifiable information.
- AI company Mercor.io bid $7.5 million, with a bankruptcy court judge due to rule on the sale on Wednesday.
- Spirit was the first major US airline in 25 years to halt operations entirely rather than be sold to another airline.
